Mr. Hendel started his career as a judicial law clerk in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (USA), with experience in the full range of U.S. federal litigation (including civil and criminal cases, and jury and non-jury cases). After and for the following decade he was a deal lawyer in the New York and Paris offices of a leading global firm, where his practice focused on international financial matters, international project and asset (particularly, aviation) finance and international M&A. Finally before launching his own practice, for the past two decades he was partner of a leading Madrid boutique, initially with a broad-based commercial, corporate and general business-law practice before evolving towards a predominantly contentious practice, particularly involving international arbitration, both as counsel and arbitrator.

Mr. Hendel is on the Panels of Arbitrators maintained by the Centro de Arbitragem Comercial da Câmara de Comércio e Indústria Portuguesa, the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the Singapore Arbitration International Center (SIAC), the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), the Centro de Arbitraje de la Cámara de Comercio de Lima, the Centro de Arbitraje de la Cámara de Comercio Americana del Perú (AmCham), the Centro Iberoamericano de Arbitraje (CIAR), the Court of Arbitration for Arts (CAfa), The British Virgin Islands International Arbitration Center (BVI IAC), among others. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a member of the Global Panel of Neutrals of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR) and member of the Executive Council of CPR’s European Advisory Board.
Mr. Hendel sits as arbitrator in a broad variety of commercial cases, often involving post-acquisition, construction or energy-related disputes under the rules of the ICC, the LCIA, the Hong Kong Centre for International Arbitration, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and under the rules of Spanish arbitral institutions, including the Corte Civil y Mercantil de Arbitraje and the Corte de Arbitraje de la Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid and under the UNCITRAL.
In the area of sports arbitration, he is a member of the FIBA Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) and the Sport Resolutions panel. He is Deputy Chairman of FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC), the leading internal judicial organ for contractual disputes in the sporting world. He is a former long-time member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Mr. Hendel conducts and writes awards in English, Spanish and French. He is also very active in international mediation.
