There is a wide range of international business situations in which companies from two or more countries enter into agreements to collaborate for long periods of years. The disputes which may arise in such collaborative ventures have certain quite unique characteristics and it is vitally important to the establishment and continued success of such ventures that the corporations which participate in them have available a reliable means for disposing of such disputes. I believe that a strong system of international commercial arbitration provides the best method of handling such disputes and that the existence of reliable arbitration procedures will greatly facilitate the task of establishing such ventures and will substantially enhance their chances for continued success.
