I open this Foreword with appreciation for all of John’s colleagues and admirers who have authored the astute chapters that follow.   

All of the contributors, and indeed all of the readers, know the headlines:  

2025:  Chambers USA—Band 1, International Arbitration 

2025:  Global Arbitration Review Award—Best Prepared/ Most Responsive Arbitrator 

2022:  Best Lawyers—Best Lawyer in New York for International Arbitration—Governmental  

2020:  Who’s Who Legal—a Global Elite Thought Leader in Arbitration 

2019:  Best Lawyers—Best Lawyer in New York for International Arbitration—Commercial  

And on and on.  

After decades as a much-lauded leader of the much-lauded international arbitration group at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP in New York, using his solid skills as both a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales and a member of the New York Bar, he made the jump to his much-lauded role as an independent arbitrator.  He not only made the jump—he flew over the highest setting of the high bar in the international arbitrator Olympics.  

But the headlines and the c.v. do not do full justice to John.
