The past couple of years have yielded rich pickings for negotiation scholarship. Particularly so, in the realm of theoryto- practice literature, which takes research findings and makes them accessible to practitioners and applicable to real-world settings.

Recent Alternatives articles have surveyed one such superb collection, the Negotiator’s Desk Reference, edited by Andrea Schneider and Chris Honeyman. (See the three-part series in the November 2018-January 2019 issues available at altnewsletter.com.) The same author-editor duo produced yet another volume of practical negotiation writing, geared particularly toward practical advice for lawyers, described and highlighted in these pages. This follows on the heels of several other single-author negotiation books, offering complete systems to follow in negotiation. For example, the new edition of John Lande’s Lawyering with Planned Early Negotiation (ABA Book Publishing, 2015), Chris Voss’ Never Split the Difference (2016, HarperBusiness), and Lainey Feingold’s Structured Negotiation (ABA Book Publishing, 2015). All are helpful. There are many maps one can follow in negotiation; having a map in the first place—any map!—is better than winging it.
