The growth of international arbitration as the dispute resolution method has been impressive. This process is being accelerated by the efforts of previously insulated countries to join more fully in an evolving global economy. In recent yea rs, the need became clear for an umbrella organization for intern ational arbitral institutions. This has resulted in the format ion of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions, dedicated to establishing and improving permanent relations among commercial arbitration entities. The Federation is now 80 organizations strong and growing.
