The expanding global economy has placed new demands on full-service ADR providers to keep pace with the evolving needs of a changing international constituency. Traditional ADR procedures often must be customized to fit the parties’ particular needs. The AAA stands at the forefront of organizations that are involved in international arbitration, James Carter points out. This prominence necessitates a careful balance between traditional methods of ADR administration and innovation that will enable the AAA to respond to new challenges on the international scene.

Much commerce, of course, is international, and full-service ADR providers must be able to satisfy the needs of a global constituency. Also, some of the largest and most interesting cases are classified as international, and experience with “blended” procedures typical of such cases—derived from civil law as well as common law—contributes significantly to the AAA’s ability to offer services tailored to parties' individual needs.
