Conference participants at the last International Centre for Dispute Resolution’s (ICDR) Miami International Arbitration Conference again enthusiastically commended the “Tertulia” sessions. The ICDR organized its 11th annual event this last fall at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and for the fifth time included the roundtable style session otherwise known as the Tertulias. The Wikipedia definition below of Tertulia provides a great description of the goals in utilizing this type of format session in ICDR conferences: “Tertulia is a social gathering with literary or artistic overtones, especially in Iberia or Latin America. Tertulia also means an informal meeting of people to talk about current affairs, arts, etc.”

The title and concept for this session was organized for the first time in our 5th Annual event under the leadership of then conference chair José I. Astigarraga, Astigarraga Davis in 2007.

Over the past three years, we have partnered with the leadership of the ICDR Young & International to help organize the Tertulias. ICDR Y&I is a networking group for arbitration and ADR practitioners under 40 with a membership of over 2,300 Associates from over 96 countries. All participants both over and under the age of 40 benefit with the inclusion of these select group of impressive ICDR Y&I professionals composing part of the overall Tertulia faculty.
