In October 2017, a gunman broke out a window from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas, owned by MGM Resorts International, shooting more than 1,000 rounds into a massive crowd of people enjoying the Route 91 Harvest Festival, an outdoor country music concert.

Nearly 60 deaths and thousands of other assorted physical and mental injuries resulted from the shooting. The victims subsequently filed suit against MGM and other related entities in several states.

In the fall of 2018, the plaintiffs’ lawyers, representing about 4,500 claimants, and MGM began structuring mediation talks, ultimately agreeing to use a co-mediation model, appointing two former judges and seasoned mediators to mediate the claims.
