The Working Group II of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, best known as Uncitral, held its 79th session in the United Nations headquarters from Feb. 12-16, 2024.

The working group was tasked with considering proposed model clauses on the topics of technology-related dispute resolution and adjudication, and to further accelerate the 2021 expedited dispute resolution mechanism—“highly expedited arbitration”—under the Uncitral Expedited Arbitration Rules (available at https://bit.ly/43pmm3h).

The topic of international high-tech-related disputes was based on a proposal by the governments of Israel and Japan on the need for potential work on dispute resolution for international high-tech transactions at the Uncitral 52nd session in July 2019 (available at https://uncitral.un.org/en/commission under the link for A/CN.9/997) and the commission tasked Working Group II to consider other exploratory work on legal issues related to the digital economy in subsequent sessions.
