Giving false information on an employ~ent application form is viewed as a serious matter, but not all arbitrators approach the queshon with the same criteria. Was the error an honest mistake or a deliberate lie? Is the false statement relevant to the employee's job responsibility? Should there be a statute of limitations imposed upon the offense? The author reviewed a variety of awards on the issue that were published over the last decade and finds that arbitrators agree in some areas but disagree in other areas.
