The use of alternative dispute resolution is rapidly expanding to new areas. This article discusses the application of mediation to disputes between parents and children.

The author describes the Children's Aid Society's PINS Mediation Project, a citywide juvenile mediation project begun in New York City in early 1981. Recently completed research indicates that mediation in the cases handled by the project has been remarkably successful. The author urges the development of similar programs in other parts of the country.
