Over the 40-plus years of my career as an attorney and neutral, I have had the privilege of mentoring many associates, apprentices, clerks, interns, students, and colleagues.

What has worked best is the shadowing model, in which a person attends all processes and events with me and also participates in the details of the resolution of any mediation or arbitration case.

This involves my obtaining prior permission of the parties for the person’s involvement as an observer to the arbitration hearing or mediation meeting. No representative of the parties has ever objected.
