The quality of the arbitrator is crucial to the conduct of an international arbitration. In 1989, the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law of Columbia University School of Law published The Guide to International Arbitration and Arbitrators. This publication was the first ever to offer detailed biographies of persons eligible for appointment as an international arbitrator. The current 30th Edition contains over 500 arbitrators and the on-line version maintains over 1,000 arbitrator listings. This readily accessible online format allows the user to locate and search arbitrators alphabetically, by nationality, language, and over 110 areas of specialization.
Both versions provide biographies detailing expertise and qualifications for appointment as an international arbitrator. The Roster of International Arbitrators is a must-have for all parties involved in international arbitration proceedings.
The impact of this directory has not gone unnoticed and has stimulated imitation. The Roster continues to be unique in determining whom it will list as well as in the detail of the information it provides about each arbitrator listed. Listing follows an objective standard relating to arbitration experience.
